Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 4th RE-INVEST Global Renewable Energy Meet & Expo, a flagship event organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), from September 16 to 18,2024,  at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The summit commenced with an inaugural address by Prime Minister Modi, who highlighted India’s achievements in renewable energy and the country’s commitment to leading the global energy transition. Modi said that the pro-climate principle is a core part of India’s commitment, which includes promoting Mission LIFE and a circular economy approach. He also unveiled the plans of his government to develop 17 cities in the country as Solar cities. Modi said that, despite being a developing country, India has achieved its climate commitments set in Paris nine years ahead of the target. He said ,sustainability is a people’s movement in India. An instance to illustrate this is the rising popularity of solar energy.We are now making green transition a public movement, he said.

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted India’s significant strike in the clean energy sector. He said India has recorded 86 percent growth in the renewable energy sector.Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also reiterated the government of state government to make Gujarat a leader in the renewable energy sector.

The exhibition showcases contributions from the public and private sectors, state governments, and start-ups, with a focus on expanding networking opportunities.A dedicated B2B digital platform is facilitating interactions between business-to- business (B2B), business-to- government (B2G), and government- to-government (G2G) entities. The Confederation of Indian Industry(CII), this year’s industry partner, is actively supporting collaboration among stakeholders.Hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the three-day conference,is expected to attract over 10,000 delegates, including leaders from government, industry, and financial sectors.

The central theme of RE-INVEST 2024 is “Mission500 GW,” highlighting India’s ambitious goal to expand its renewable energy capacity to 500 gigawatts by 2030. As the fourth largest country in terms of installed renewable energy capacity, India is committed to further cementing its leadership in the global energy transition.

This year’s event sees key international partners suchas Australia, Denmark, Germany, and Norway actively participating, alongside Indian states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana,Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. High-level delegations from the US,UK, Belgium, the European Union, Oman, UAE, Singapore, and Hong Kong will also be present, with some led by ministers from Germany and Denmark.

The conference agenda includes 44 sessions, featuring a Chief Ministerial Plenary, CEO Roundtable, and discussions on renewable energy innovations and country-specific opportunities. Key sessions will explore the role of women in driving energy transitions and highlight start- ups, with the ten winners of the Solar X Challenge presenting their innovative pitches.

On Day 1, the summit commenced with an inaugural address by Prime Minister Modi, who highlighted India’s achievements in renewable energy and the country’s commitment to leading the global energy transition. The day’s sessions delved into key topics such as green investment,the development of green hydrogen technologies, and the growth of wind energy.

Day 2 will see Gujarat’s Energy Minister, Kanubhai Desai, delivering a keynote address, focusing on Gujarat’s role as a pioneer in renewable energy innovation. The day will also feature sessions on clean energy strategies and investment opportunities for global stakeholders.

The final day of the summit will focus on India’s ambitious net-zero goals, with discussions centered on advancements in renewable energy technologies. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will deliver the valedictory address, marking the conclusion of the event, which will be followed by a closing cultural program.

RE-INVEST, which began in 2015, has evolved into a key platform for global stakeholders in renewable energy. Previous editions took place in New Delhi in 2015, Delhi NCR in 2018, and a virtual edition in 2020.This edition of RE-INVEST marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time the summit is being held outside Delhi, underscoring Gujarat’s position as a leader in the renewable energy sector. The state has become a focal point for innovation and investment in clean energy, further aligning with India’s vision of achieving a sustainable and green future.
