Stock market recover in second half of trade; Nifty ends above 19460, Sensex climbs 130 pts

The Indian equity benchmark indices ended Wednesday’s trading session in the green amid weak global market trends and continuous foreign fund outflows.

At close, the Sensex was up 137.50 points, or 0.21 percent, at 65,539.42, and the Nifty was up 30.45 points, or 0.16 percent, at 19,465.

Stocks and Sectors

UltraTech Cement, Apollo Hospitals, NTPC, Infosys and Tata Motors were top gainers on Nifty, while losers included Tata Steel, Adani Ports, Hindalco Industries, HDFC Life and Bharti Airtel.

On the sectoral front,except bank and metal, all indices ended in the green. Auto, power, realty, IT, pharma and capital goods were up 0.5-1 percent.

The BSE midcap index rose 0.2 percent and the smallcap index added 0.5 percent.

The Indian rupee on 16 Aug’23, (Wednesday) managed to recover against the US dollar I’m the offshore non- deliverable forward (NDF)market on likely intervention by the Reserve Bank of India(RBI) and recovery in the Chinese yuan, according to recent updates.The Indian rupee closed at 83.233 against the US dollar.
