Stock Market Highlights: Nifty ends around 17600,Sensex rises 144 points as RBI keeps policy rate unchanged

The Indian equity market, has gained to the fifth session in a row on Thursday, April 6, after the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) surprisingly decided to keep the key interest rate unchanged at 6.5 percent.

At close, the Sensex was up 143.66 points or 0.24 percent at 59,832.97, and the Nifty was up 42.10 points or 0.24 percent at 17,599.20.

The central bank has kept FY24 GDP growth projection at 6.50 percent and FY24 inflation projection at 5.2 percent, according to reliable sources.

Stocks and Sectors

Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Finance, Tata Motors, Bajaj Finserv and Sun Pharma were among the biggest gainers on the Nifty, while HCL Technologies, ONGC, Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra and ICICI Bank were among the losers.

Among sectors, the realty index added 3 percent, auto index gained 1 percent, while pharma, capital goods, oil & gas, power up 0.5 percent each. However, FMCG, IT and metal down 0.5 percent each, according to sources.

The BSE midcap and smallcap indices rose 0.7 percent each.

On April 6,23, the rupee ended 24 paise lower to close at 82.44 per dollar against previous close of 81.95.

On April 7, the market will remain closed on account of Good Friday.
