The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate showers for Ahmedabad on Sunday, while several other parts of Gujarat brace for intense rainfall due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra and Kutch. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, 205 of 252 talukas recorded rainfall till 8 p.m. Saturday, with Dwarka taluka receiving the highest at 62mm, followed by Jambughoda (61mm), Prantij (52mm), Lakhpat (48mm), and Porbandar (47mm).

The IMD has issued red alerts for six districts—Kutch, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, and Junagadh—warning of extremely heavy rainfall. As many as 28 districts are under rain alert on Sunday, with a turbulent weather spell expected to last through July 3. Orange and yellow alerts have been declared across different regions, signalling chances of very heavy to isolated heavy rainfall, particularly in Saurashtra and South Gujarat.

Looking ahead, districts including Kutch, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Tapi, Dang, and Navsari may face thunderstorms and possible flooding on June 29 and 30. The intensity is expected to spread statewide by July 2 and 3, with widespread heavy rainfall anticipated. Notably, North Gujarat could be severely impacted on July 3, with orange alerts issued in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli, among others.

In view of the forecast, the Gujarat government has activated disaster response mechanisms across all districts. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed, and control rooms are operating round the clock. Temporary shelters, emergency services, and public advisories have been arranged to ensure safety and swift response amid the escalating monsoon activity.
