Rajababu Singh (IPS) Takes Charge as Chairman of Jiwaji Club, Pays Tribute to Scindia Legacy

In a ceremony marked by tradition and reverence, senior IPS officer Rajababu Singh was formally inducted as the new Chairman of the prestigious Jiwaji Club. The event was attended by an august gathering comprising club members, retired police officers, and dignitaries from various walks of life.

While addressing the gathering on the auspicious occasion, Singh lauded the historical legacy of the erstwhile Scindia family, acknowledging their pivotal role in the establishment of Jiwaji Club. “The Scindia rulers envisioned the club as a refined social and cultural space, modelled along the lines of colonial clubs, yet distinct in its ethos and purpose—offering a platform away from native hierarchical norms,” he remarked.

Drawing a historical connection between his native Banda in Uttar Pradesh and Gwalior, Singh referred to the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761. He highlighted the role of the Maratha Confederacy and the ensuing impact of that era, establishing a deep-rooted link between regions and legacies.

Commending the ongoing value-addition and redensification initiatives at the club, Singh praised the efforts of the incumbent management while emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards of discipline. Recalling an instance from Delhi’s Gymkhana Club, he shared how a recommendation for guest entry was declined due to a deviation from the prescribed formal dress code. “Such discipline is what gives an institution its distinct identity,” he added.

Singh pledged his full support to the management, promising to contribute to the vision of making Jiwaji Club one of the finest social and cultural institutions in the country. He announced plans to introduce Yoga by Heartfulness, an initiative of the Heartfulness Institute, Hyderabad, for the well-being of members. “In today’s fast-paced world, such practices offer much-needed solace,” he stated.

Despite assuming the chairmanship, Singh expressed his desire to remain an active member, particularly as a tennis enthusiast. “I would love to visit the club not just as Chairman, but also as a regular tennis player—that’s where my passion lies,” he said.
Jiwaji Club President Raju Seth, Secretary Sanjay Verma, and other office bearers extended a warm welcome to Singh. Following the formal proceedings, Singh toured the club’s sports enclosures and reviewed the progress of various ongoing projects.
