Bull Run Continues: Sensex, Nifty Scale New Heights, Investors Smile as Wealth Surges by Rs 3 Lakh Crore

The Indian equity market indices extended the winning run to the fifth consecutive session on Monday,with the Sensex and the Nifty crossing new milestones led by buying across sectors and positive earnings.At close the, Sensex ended 759.49 points,or 1.05 percent, higher at 73,327.94 and the Nifty 203.90 points, or 0.93 percent,at 22,097.45, their best closing so far.The market capitalisation of BSE listed companies rose by nearly Rs 3 lakh crore to around Rs 3.76 lakh crore from about Rs 3.73 lakh crore in the previous session, according to estimates.

Stocks and Sectors
Wipro, ONGC, HCL Technologies, Infosys and Bharti Airtel were among the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included HDFC Life, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Hindalco Industries and Eicher Motors.

On the sectoral front, except metal all indices ended in the green with the information technology, PSU bank, oil & gas up 1 percent each.Broader indices touched their fresh highs during the session before closing with marginal gains.

On 15 Jan’24,the Indian rupee appreciated 18 paise to close at 82.77 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, supported by bullish domestic equities wherein domestic indices touched record highs.

“Monday’s US holiday is likely to result in decreased trading activity, potentially dampening market volatility. This development hints at positive trends for emerging market currencies amidst reduced holiday trading activity,” said CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari.
